I am happy to present to our readers yet another issue of MANTHAN (Vol. 7, No. 1), where we have focused on a lot of upcoming issues in the areas of Travel and Banking Business, Public Administration, Luxury Fashion Brands, Social Networking and Health Sectors in Indian economies.
This issue consists of eight research papers. The first paper relating to travel industries by Apoorva Kumar and Pawan Garga explores the factors which influence customer skepticism on the online travel service providers. They found that consumer skepticism are antecedent of travel decisions. Therefore, by focusing on these parameters online firms can cater to effective decisions for the customers. The second paper on ‘Occupational stress of bank employees: A study of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh’ by M. Santhi and P. Niranjan Reddy attempts to find the stress levels of select bank employees of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The study found that private bank employees have more stress compared to the public sector employees due to long working hours and high pressure. In cadre level, officers are highly stressed because of NPAs and disbursement of loans. The third paper on ‘Organisational justice and its effect on organisational commitment: A study of selected Civil Service Organisations of Gondar City Administration’ by Demis Alamirew Getahun investigates organisational justice and its effect on the commitment of employees in selected public sector organisations of Gondar city. It is found that distributive and procedural justice have a significant effect on organisational commitment but not on interpersonal and informational justice.
The fourth paper on ‘A novel method for disaster relief management: CMQI system’ by Sandeep Bhattacharjee tries to observe how some of the prominent disasters have impacted the population in India’s past history. He found that artificial intelligence combined with database management systems can provide more support in strengthening the dynamic database that can be modified and updated as per requirement based on the situation to control the natural disasters. The fifth paper on ‘Luxury fashion brands embracing the digital: An exploratory study to unfold the success strategy’ by Kashika Chadha and Yukti Ahuja explores the digital strategies luxury fashion brands are embracing and their influence on the brand’s performance. It was found that the ‘right’ digital strategy differs for every brand: it can be a well-designed user-friendly website or banner ads, going mobile or engaging customers through social media, new content or imagery. The sixth paper on ‘Impact of job seekers’ profile on social networking websites in the recruitment process in Indian IT firms’ by Monika Punn explores the significance of social networking as a medium of recruitment in IT industries and focuses on job seekers’ perspective of using social media for recruitment. The present study confirms that social media profile of job seekers’ has an impact in recruitment process.
The seventh paper on ‘An analysis of tourism infrastructure development in Maharashtra’ by Gorkhnath Uttekar analyses the role played by the tourism sector in the economic development of Maharashtra. The paper highlights the tourism policy of the state, assesses the impact of tourism development, identifies specific tourist centres and suggest certain policy measures for the development of tourism activity. The last paper on ‘Efficacy of mentoring on junior doctors’ performance: A case study’ by Shyamasundar Tripathy and Sanjay Kumar Satapathy explores the effectiveness of mentoring on performance of junior doctors and also how mentoring acts as a catalyst to boot the performance of junior doctors. It is found that efficacy of mentoring has a wide impact on junior doctors’ performance and it helps to boost their performance. It also helps to nurture junior doctors to overcome different challenges in future.
I hope this issue of MANTHAN makes for an interesting reading and provide new insights into some pertinent issues in Commerce and Management. I also hope that the Journal would continue to get the patronage of its readers and contributions from diverse and unexplored areas of commerce and management.
