Assessment of Healthcare Financing across BRICS Nations: A Comparative Study

The objective of the study is to assess healthcare financing among BRICS nations based on secondary data. In terms of total healthcare expenditure per capita in 2020, Russia is in the highest position, followed by Brazil, China, South Africa and India. In terms of the share of government healthcare expenditure out of total healthcare expenditure, the highest is observed for Russia in the highest position, followed by South Africa, China, Brazil and India. In terms of the share of out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure out of total healthcare expenditure, India is the highest position, followed by China, Russia and South Africa. India and South Africa are in most disadvantageous positions in respect of healthcare financing and Brazil, Russia and China are in advantageous positions. Some economic theories and theoretical thoughts relevant to healthcare financing have been incorporated. To enhance healthcare financing in India and South Africa, some policies have been recommended.
