Uzbekistan is resource rich, strategically located country that provides wide range of trade and investment opportunities for India. The total trade turnover between the two countries in 2019 was $355.5 million which is much below the coveted target of USD 1 billion. Pharmaceuticals, textile, automotive industry, information technology, infrastructure, education and tourism are the main areas where the two countries can collaborate successfully. Being a part of its extended neighbour, India must play a proactive role in Uzbekistan as well as in other countries of Central Asia, so as to secure its economic, political and strategic interests.
