It gives me immense pleasure in introducing the inaugural issue of FOCUS: Journal of International Business to our readers. The discipline of international business is expanding rapidly with emerging new dimensions which are of significance for internationalisation of business enterprises. FOCUS aims to promote and publish innovative research on relevant and topical issues in all areas of international business. The journal intends to provide valuable insights for both the theory and practice of international business. The scope of the journal is interdisciplinary and hence we welcome articles integrating international business with other disciplines.
This issue of FOCUS brings together articles from across the academic fraternity on some contemporary issues in international business. In the backdrop of the recent crises that have hit various countries of the world, it is imperative to examine their causes and impact so as to enable prudent policy making for future. In the light of this, the first paper focuses on studying crises through structural breaks in the case of the Asian currency crises. Another paper focuses on an interesting and important aspect of international business which is reporting systems and how reporting by geographical segment can increase the confidence of the financial markets. In addition to these, we have papers focusing on trade and investment across borders which are central to the discipline of international business. While one paper looks at the causes or motives behind outward FDI between India and Latin American region, another one assesses the impact of mergers and acquisitions on firm performance. Further, there are three papers based on trade in specific sectors or industries.
In this inaugural issue of FOCUS, we have attempted to put together an amalgam of papers ranging from macro level country-based studies to micro level industry-based and firm-based studies covering a variety of issues. We hope this issue is useful to our readers and generates ideas for further research in international business. We look forward to your continued patronage.
