About DES and IMDR

The Deccan Education Society (DES) is a prominent educational organization based in Pune, India. Established in 1884 by notable figures such as Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar., the society has played a significant role in the field of education and has contributed to the intellectual and social development of the region. Shri Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi, Shri. Vaman Shivram Apte and Shri Vishnushastri Chiplunkar were instrumental in its growth later on. These leaders were instrumental in the social and educational reform movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in India.
IMDR, the Institute of Management Development and Research, is an autonomous management institute in Pune. Celebrating now its 50th year, it was established in 1974 by DES with the primary objective of providing quality management education. IMDR offers postgraduate and doctoral programs in management. The institute focuses on developing business leaders with a strong ethical foundation and a commitment to social responsibility.
