Purpose: The present research attempts to study to find out the causes of occupational stress amongst the software professionals, the ways adopted by them to cope up with it and their intention to leave employment. Design/Methodology/Approach: For better understanding of the Stress related sources and problems of the software professionals, qualitative methods were employed in this research. This is because; “A major strength of the qualitative approach is the depth to which explorations are conducted and descriptions are written, usually resulting in sufficient details for the reader to grasp the idiosyncrasies of the situation and the data from this research was systematically gathered and analysed using a grounded theory approach. The sample included professionals working for full time, with varying demographic details. Findings: This study also tried to throw some light on the intentions of the professionals regarding leaving their organisations. Through in-depth interviews and focused group discussions, the researcher found out that the software professionals are going through huge amount of occupational stress. Research Limitations: There were quiet a number of limitations in the design of the study. Managerial Implications: The implication for management is that the commitment of the organisation itself and the involvement of both workers and management could to be crucial for the success of stress management activities, although other factors are also identified as important. Originality/Value: This study showcased the original work of the authors to understand the causes of occupational stress amongst the software professionals.
