Purpose: The paper addresses United Kingdom’s future in the global market place, its capacity to participate effectively in global management processes, and issues pertaining to the pharmaceutical industry in the United Kingdom. The paper also addresses concerns regarding the nature of the pharmaceutical industry and its overall participation in the global market place. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study is descriptive in its approach, and uses secondary data. Findings: Industries must establish competitive positions in areas of competitive pricing both foreign and domestic, establishing strong first-to-market drug pipelines, generic pharmaceutical competition and protection of intellectual property rights on a global scale. Companies that are poised to create strong drug portfolios, proven brand recognition and competence in the litigation of patent intellectual property rights will succeed in this global marketplace. Research Limitations: Factors affecting the pharmaceutical market could have been included to make the study rigorous. Managerial Implications: The pharmaceutical companies of the UK will have to continue to focus on strengths of R&D in areas of manufacturing systems and developing of new emerging markets. Originality/Values: The study presents a snapshot of pharmaceutical global marketplace.
